Why did you choose to go to Leuven, Belgium?
I choosed Leuven beacuse it has a very good university and it is a city well-prepared for students.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship is for 5 months and I recieve 2700 euros, which is completely not enough.
What is the student lifestyle like in Leuven?
Life in Leuven is completely prepared for erasmus and Belgian students. The lectures are very interesting although the courses seem to be hard. You have to spend a little time studying. You can also go to the big sports centrum and practise a lot of sports, and there are also a lot of activities to do. And there is every night party in the main square.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Leuven to other students?
Because it is a small city and you can reach everything you want in 5 minuts by bycicle or walking. Also the university is the main institution in the city so it organises a lot of interesting meetings and brings professors from over the world.
What is the food like?
Beer, chocolate, cheese and fries!
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leuven?
I came to Leuven before comming to my exchange and I have the chance to find the accommodation that fitted better to me. But there are a lot of companies which helps you to find it.
How much does it cost to live in Leuven?
The kot or residence costs between 300 and 500 euros. With other expenses it may cost you about 700 euros per month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The university offers you free Dutch courses but everybody speaks English.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leuven from your city?
I am from Barcelona and the easiest way is to fly to Zaventem, the main aireport located in Brussels. Chareloi is another option but it will take 1 hour to reach Brussels.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leuven?
Oude Markt is a square ful of restaurants and pubs and where the night life remains. Also there are some facbars (bars from faculties) to go on party.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leuven?
As Belgium is a little expensive, I would recommend you to buy your own food in the supermarket.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
You can visit an abbey is the south and also the Arenberg Castle. Here it is also the Estella Artois Brewery.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leuven in the future?
Dont miss the chance to live in Leuven!
