Erasmus Experience in Leuven, Belgium by Anastasiia
Why did you choose to go to Leuven, Belgium?
I chose Leuven because I found a suitable study program at KU, one of the best universities in Europe.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It lasts 10 months and I receive 640€ per month, which is enough for the rent, food, some trips around Belgium, and entertainment.
What is the student lifestyle like in Leuven?
There is a lot of parties and activities during the semester, but the city is dead during the exam period.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Leuven to other students?
Yes, I would definitely recommend it. The city is very small, peaceful, and cozy.
What is the food like?
The food is not the best, since it has a lot of oil and there's much fried stuff. You need to get used to so try it at the student restaurant called Alma.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leuven?
No, I found it at one of the university's dorms at KU Leuven site.
How much does it cost to live in Leuven?
I pay 640€ per month for a modest life, but for 1000€ you can travel and party.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, several courses are available, but there's no need to learn it if you come for a short period, since most Belgians speak English.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leuven from your city?
The best way to go to Leuven is by plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leuven?
I recommend going to Oude Markt ("Old Market").
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leuven?
I recommend eating in Domino or Thai House.
