Why did you choose to go to Leon, Spain?

Because I wanted to learn to speak spanish and get an insight in the culture.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

One semester in spring. I have recieved 1000 euro from my university.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leon?

It is more relaxed than I am used to in Denmark. People are very helpfull and I learn a lot of spanish just by talking to my classmates in Spanish!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Leon to other students?

Yes.

What is the food like?

I don´t like the food - it is a lot of meat and white bread! -. I am a vegetarian and there is very few offers for vegetarians. The city is furthermore not so globalized which makes difficult to find products from foreign countries, but this is in reality interesting, because I this way get easily in touch with the local culture. I just miss some vegetarian food!

How did you find your accommodation?

I looked at the Internet. At first I used the very informative web site of the university, but when I arrived most of these rooms were occupied, so I found an apartment with a mate from my Spanish class on an official web site.

What are the accommodation prices like? What are prices like for other things in general?

Cheap. The standard of the rooms are also quite low, but it does not matter for a short time of living. I prefer low prices and lower standard in stead of expensive rooms and good standard, when I am only staying for one semester.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes and no. In the university it can be very difficult to understand the professors, but talking in the street with friends is quite easy to get grips on.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leon from your city?

By flight to Barcelona or Madrid from Copenhagen and further on by train or bus.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leon?

To C. C. A. N. or the small bars with music.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leon?

I have not been eating out much but on a chinese restaurant or tapas.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

MUSAC with modern art, small expositions of art, the market in plaza mayor on the saturdays, the cathedral, the buildings of Gaudí, the river, the park Candamia, the cultural centre albeitar...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leon in the future?

Go to the park to study, play guitar and sunbathe, run near by the river, find the small stores that sell particular and interesting things in the small streets of húmedo, go to watch cheap or free movies and concerts in Albeitar, invite classmates and friends on a dinner, where everyone brings a dinner and drinks, go to a cocina popular at C. C. A. N. at 14. 30 on sundays and meet spanish, relaxed people and play chest or watch a movie, subscribe yourself to a course of sport (like senderismo, skiing and many other things) in the university, which is the cheapest way of doing sports and a good way of meeting spanish students and always be open to coming-up events!
