Today I want to share with you one of the yummiest places I have been eating at in whole Spain! It is situated in Tarajalejo, a small fisher town in Fuerteventura. I know, it is not really a place where a lot of people travel to, but if you are ever making holidays in the south of the island you should take the 15 min drive from Costa Calma and check this place out!
Tarajalejo pretty much just consists of a hotel, some apartments, restaurants and a little town square. Situated right on the ocean “La Barraca” is a real insider tip. You can sit inside or outside. From the inside the furnitures are rather rustic and nothing special, but outside you can sit right on the beach on a little terrace and enjoy the nice view on the ocean during the day and in the night dine to the sound of the waves. Sometimes there is even a guitar player who reinforces the lovely ambience. The owners are really friendly and give good advises on the food, in Spanish as well as in English.
The fish restaurant has obviously a lot of fish dishes on their menu but also a range of appetizers in Tapas style, which were the main reason I was loving this place so much. I personally don’t like fish, so I tried most of the fish free options, but as I heard from fish-lovers the fish at la Barraca was incredibly good and fresh. What I can recommend you from the tapas are the shrimps with garlic and the goat cheese with maple syrup... so so good! Especially the goat cheese, a typical delicacy from Fuerteventura was definitely one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life! It is a wonderful mix of cheesy and sweet taste- simply perfect. Another thing to definitely try is the so called “Mojo”, a sauce typical for the island, that exists in green and red and consists of garlic and other yummy ingredients. Coming with fresh bread to dip it is perfect to eat while waiting for the rest of the food.
When we visited La Barraca for the first time we came because we were told that they have the best tapas around. But when we arrived and looked at the menu we had to realise just one appetizer cost in between 5 and 10€, which was way more than we know from normal tapas, from which we usually order more than just one or two. But the owner convinced us that one or two portions with some bread would be enough to be satisfied. Luckily me and my friend just ordered one each because indeed it was so filling that after eating some bread with Mojo and sharing shrimps and goat cheese we were already feeling like pretty much rolling out of the restaurant. But not before having one of those yummy “ron miel” (a typical Xanarian shot with honey) on the house!
“La Barraca”, a place with great typical island food, right on the beach of the fisher town of Tarajalejo, definitely a place to visit if you are ever on Fuerteventura!
