Fuerteventura is one of the seven islands of the Canaries. It is known for its great wind and waves, the perfect spot for watersports lover. On the south-west coast of the island there is a small beach that is known by many for its great swell and beautiful surf: La Pared.
The town of La Pared pretty much just consists of a small shop, a couple of surfschools and some of tourist appartments. Still every day plenty cars come driving down the little stone street to the end of the town. Most of them carrying surf boards on the top of their cars. Cause here is where the cliffs of the west coast starts, and where a little way leads down to the beach of La Pared, a magical place for all people with salt water in their veins.
The way down is not easy and short, you will have to walk approximately 15 minutes through stone and sand and you will hear the surfstudents swearing, carrying their heavy boards down to the beach. But already on half of the way you will be able to look down from the steep cliffs to see the beautiful bay of La Pared, and every step of the way will be worth it.
Just ten minutes drive from the calm east coast of the island (La Pared is situated at the most narrow point of Fuerteventura), you find here a wild ocean, that sometimes spits out perfect waves. Often the waves here get too big and messy, on those days you will not see any surfers in the water, just some people sitting on the beach or on the top of the cliffs to watch the wild beauty of the ocean.
So if you are at the island, definitely don't miss to take a surf lesson here at the beach of La Pared, not just that surfing is a great sport that is a lot of fun to learn, but it is even better to learn it at a beautiful beach, surrounded by stunning nature, like we find it in the bay of La Pared.
