What is it like to live in Klagenfurt? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Very small. If you are a big city person (like me) this is not the place for you. I have however, friends who come from small towns and find Klagenfurt very nice.

What is the student lifestyle like in Klagenfurt?

Internationals hang out together. Locals are really not interested in meeting internationals. You will have very few local friends. I never thought this would be the case for me, but most locals have all of their local friends for 4+ years, and family etc, they have no incentive in meeting internationals that will just be there for a few months.

How much does it cost to live in Klagenfurt?

Student dorms are very cheap (260 euros a month) and apartments are not that much more. Food can be cheap as well.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Klagenfurt? Is there any advice you can give?

Student dorms are the easiest to go to.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Traditional Austrian food, but there is variety as well in the inner city.

What places would you recommend visiting in Klagenfurt?

The lake at Wörthersee is beautiful.

Is the nightlife good in Klagenfurt? Where is good to go?

Not at all. There are student organized parties. You will usually see only the international students, and since there are not too many, the same people over and over again. No clubs in Klagenfurt. Mostly small bars, a lot of cheap beer, and A LOT of smoking indoors.

What advice would you give future students heading to Klagenfurt?

If you don't mind a slow paced environment, small town then its alright. I attended the winter semester, and the winter is TOUGH here. No sun for days. For the summer semester it can be really beautiful. You bike to school, then bike to the lake with your friends and swim in the lake, etc.

I wouldn't recommend it at all for people who want to constantly go out and meet new people, like big parties, etc.
