Small, but bully
It's a quite city with many parks and squares where you can enjoy the sunny days, that are many. The university environment fills the bars and the pubs of the city. It's cheaper than any other city in terms of: accomodation, transport, restoration and services. Tapas are very typical here, you have them for free with every meal. Moreover, during the year we enjoy our local festivities, “la feria de San Lucar” in October and “Virgen de la Capilla” in June, “Romería de Santa Catalina” in November, “Cruces” in May or the “Semana Santa(Easter)”.
Beautiful due to its arquitecture, this city is a product of the mixture of cultures that have left their mark in the city (Iberian, Tartessos, Romans, Arabs, Jews, etc) because of its geographical situation. The jewel that we, the citizens of Jaén are more proud of, is the Renaissance cathedral, but the Arab baths and the Sta. Catalina's castle are also very important.
Granada, in the South, is only one hour away by car, and Córdoba, in the Northwest, is very good connected by train and bus with Madrid.
As a negativ aspect, I only can say that the temperatures are high during the summer. It's not recommendable for anyone to suffer this weather, that we try to bear in the patios and in the very big number of swimming pools.
