What is it like to live in Istanbul? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I always say Istanbul is a city that has soul. I studied in Istanbul for five years (except the time I've been in Germany for erasmus).
The city is amazing and awful at the same time, according to the parts of the city that you talk about. However it's a common thing for all the cities in the world.

What is the student lifestyle like in Istanbul?

I can say if you have a lot of money it is amazing but like every student you can figure it out:). Just be aware , search a lot but not with concern with fun.
It's a big city there are lots of things worth to search for :)

How much does it cost to live in Istanbul?

I think it's at least 1000 TL , according to where you live , what you do. Of course the alcohol is really expensive. Pick some alcohol from your country and pack them up with you (just in case ):)

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Istanbul? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it is certainly not. Just you need to search for it . But I reccomend that you should have a turkish student friend and search with him/her . Bargain really works, there are always cheap solutions:)
Also ask for exchange managers at your school , sometimes they know people who look for roommate.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Ahhh it's the thing. The foods are good! I mean really good. I cannot say one of them my favourite.
Experience them all !

What places would you recommend visiting in Istanbul?

Taksim, Besiktas, Ortaköy, Bebek in the european side, Kadıköy, Moda, Caddebostan, Suadiye, Kalamış in the asian side ( those are the first ones bumped into my head and there are many more)

Is it good to eat out in Istanbul? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes it's really nice. I think, I don't have spots , I would like to eat different place everytime.

Is the nightlife good in Istanbul? Where is good to go?

Yes It's good. Taksim is nice , but Girls be aware :)

What advice would you give future students heading to Istanbul?

Be open minded, search a lot, and live the city .
