What is it like to live in Istanbul? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Istanbul is a marvelous, historical city. Its historical base is really amazing, there are precious places to see, from Ottoman Empire, Bizantion etc. and many others like Hagia Sophia. In Istanbul, you can be in Asia and in Europe. The city has both of these cultures. Just one thing is not nice to me, traffic! Just be careful about what time are you going out. :)

What is the student lifestyle like in Istanbul?

Student lifestyle is really nice. Taksim is the heart of Istanbul, there are many many things there like bars, libraries, exhibitions, cafes or what you want for your student life, depends on your lifestyle. Istanbul has too many centers, It's a really big city. But I always prefer the Europe Side, see there especially Taksim, Beşiktaş, Bebek, Sultanahmet.

How much does it cost to live in Istanbul?

If you are from Europe, It'll be nice for you. We use Turkish Lira and 1 Euro is 2,5 Turkish Lira. It's not an expensive country but ofcourse It may change where do you stay, where do you do shopping etc.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Istanbul? Is there any advice you can give?

I think It's not. Because, as I said, It's a big city and there are many opportunities. Furthermore, the tram and metro line are really nice to reach somewhere.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The Turkish food are really nice. They are not soo "soft" but you don't need to eat kebab every day! :) We have a rich cuisine, you may eat (the traditionals) dolma, İskender Kebab, İmam Bayıldı, Şiş kebab etc. And a rich Turkish breakfast might be so nice!

What places would you recommend visiting in Istanbul?

Especially Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Tahta Kale and ofcourse the amazing Vosporos.

Is it good to eat out in Istanbul? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yeap, It's always nice. If you go to Taksim, you'll find simple and beautiful places. Our foods are not "weird" I suppose than the other European countries. Maybe too much spices.

Is the nightlife good in Istanbul? Where is good to go?

Again, Taksim! In Taksim, If you go to Nevizade, you can find too many places to prefer a good one as you imagine.

What advice would you give future students headed to Istanbul?

In Istanbul, there are places like France or Iran or America or Chine or whatever think. For this reason people call this "a multicultural country". People are nice but ofcourse be careful everywhere and when you talk in tram etc., please do not shout too much like th others Europeans.
