Why did you choose to go to Istanbul, Türkiye?
To experience a new and different culture as well as to explore a city so rich in history.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I was there for five months and I got a small scholarship for around 1000 euro.
What is the student lifestyle like in Istanbul?
Interesting
Would you recommend the city and the University of Istanbul to other students?
Yes, but due to the current political climate not at the moment/near future.
What is the food like?
Good.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Istanbul?
No.
How much does it cost to live in Istanbul?
Depends on what quality you are looking for an where you want to live. In my experiences good places can be had for 200-300 Euro
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Turkish is in my opinion a very difficult language to master and even easy sentences took me quite some time. Luckily there was a Turkish language class available at my university.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Istanbul from your city?
By plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Istanbul?
Taksim.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Istanbul?
If you have the money the old city is full of good restaurants.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
A lot.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Istanbul in the future?
Wait for a few years till the conflict in Turkey has died down a bit.
