Why did you choose to go to Istanbul, Turkey?

I chose Istanbul because I wanted to get a sense of Asia, of the Middle East, of the people and culture. I haven't regretted it.

What is the food like?

Well since I am Vegan I can tell you that there is a lot of meat everywhere. But, also vegetables are very tasty and affordable and there is some Turkish 'specialties' like Çiğ köfte which is nowadays made from vegetable sources such as bulgur and some tasty spices. You should always check and ask is it meat free (I do it by asking 'Ev yok?' meaning approximately 'no meat?'

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Istanbul?

Yes, I had to pay a fee for the website Erasmusu in order to find information about the flats I was looking at.

How much does it cost to live in Istanbul?

I spend approximately 200 euros on food and everyday activities monthly. And the flat costs me about 200 euros a month also.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I am taking a language course at my University. Turkish language is a very interesting one and you will soon be able to have mini conversations with sellers in markets and you should be able to bargain with pazaar sellers.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Istanbul from your city?

I think an airplane flight from Zagreb to Istanbul is about 200 euros both ways. It take some 2 hours of flight.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Istanbul?

Taksim is a great place with millions of different places to see and bars to visit. Also, on the Asian side you have the nice Kadikoy, a very urban and European-style neighborhood.
