Why did you choose to go to Istanbul, Turkey?

My reasoning to come to Istanbul where the German Turkish relations and that I was very interested to get to know a city that has been so hyped lately.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I have received an ERASMUS scholarship for four months.

What is the student lifestyle like in Istanbul?

Very leisure and relaxed

Would you recommend the city and the University of Istanbul to other students?

I would definitely recommend the city to people and my university to enjoy the city to its fullest.

What is the food like?

AWESOME. Turkish cuisine is by far the most delicious one!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Istanbul?

No, finding an accommodation is fairly easy.

How much does it cost to live in Istanbul?

rent 200 Euro per month
cost of living 150 euro per month

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Turkish is not easy to learn but the university offers courses and you always get along somehow.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Istanbul from your city?

By plain, flights from all over Europe are quite cheap.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Istanbul?

Just go to Istiklal Street, the main street close to Taksim square and stroll around the smaller streets there. You will always find a cool place.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Istanbul?

Same there as with partying.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

All the mosques, museums and traditional neighbourhoods as well as typical Turkish things like a hot bath.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Istanbul in the future?

Move to the centre on the eastern, or western side and enjoy your time in Istanbul and take the opportunity to explore Turkey!
