Erasmus Experience in Istanbul
Why did you choose to go to Istanbul, Turkey?
Such an happening place. West meets east and you really experience that when living there. Turkish boyfriend of four years, so also wanted to improve my language skills.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
With the erasmus grant and my loan I had more than enough money to live with there. You can find real cheap food and housing.
What is the student lifestyle like in Istanbul?

Yes
What is the food like?
Delicious.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Istanbul?
No. I found it through a mutual friend on facebook.
How much does it cost to live in Istanbul?
Not much. Can't remember.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Language courses available. Don't be scared, try using your hands if you can not communicate with words.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Istanbul from your city?
Pegasus from Stockholm or Turkish airlines.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Istanbul?
Taksim, besiktar, kadiköy... Everywhere!
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Istanbul?
Ekin cafe near campus.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
All of them. Get the museum card for discounts.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Istanbul in the future?
Don't be scared, turkish people are so friendly if you are open and respectful. Be patient with everything. They are quite old school so everything takes a lot of time.
