Differences of the earth's surface

The place where I was born was a mountainous country Afghanistan. When you were looking around your environment you could only and only feel and see the highly edges of the mountains. In 21 of my age I then travelled here to Istanbul, turkey from Kandahar,  Afghanistan. I was thinking that it would be the same mountainous country, but I searched a lot travelled for miles and for months to see and find its mountains, I couldn't. You know what were wonderful to me were the hills of Istanbul but had not even a single mountain.
