Eat & See
What is the thing that basically everyone loves to do? Eating! Right? Everyone needs food, and sometimes we crave it even though we should not be having it, but that is a different story. What if you can, instead, combine two passions of yours? Let's say you also want to go to the theater but you are not allowed to eat in there, what do you do? Give up and stay at home on the couch watching a recorded video of the play? No. You do have options.
Candelight Dinner Playhouse
I did not know where my American family was driving me to. They just told me I would love it and that it would be fun. As far as I understood I was going to have lunch (as I did not have anything to eat and it was time to do so), but they also mentioned a show we were going to see. Weird, because I told them that I had to be in Denver that afternoon for a concert I did not want to miss.
They were actually right. There is a place where you can do both things, eating and seeing plays. Your waiters and waitresses are actual actors from the play that you are going to see after your meal. So try to imagine a theater that instead of comfortable stuffed seats has tables and chairs. Actors come, take your orders, come back with food and then disappear behind the scenes where they get ready to perform on the stage. Cool, right?
(Sorry for my low-quality picture, could not take a better one due to lights and position of our table).
During the break, they leave the stage again and come back to the audience to serve dessert for everyone who chooses to have some. I had a New York Cheesecake and I would definitely suggest to everyone who will go there to order it because it was delicious!
(My New York Cheesecake alongside my cup of coffee - not a fan of plain American coffee, but it worked).
There are different menus you can choose, or even just singular entrees you can pick if you are not that hungry or do not want to spend too much. I believe there is even a seasonal pass that you can purchase if you are pretty sure you will be at the Candelight for every play they stage.
(I took this picture of an empty plate because this is what I was facing while imagining the food I ordered and was desperately waiting for).
The cool thing about this place is that actors have actually different jobs for a living, so they only perform for fun or because their passion is to act and perform. You do not need to be a professional actor to take part of a play at the Candelight, I suppose, but just someone who is willing to commit and put his effort into a side project like this.
Each one at the table receives a brochure that contains the list of the actors and a little bit about who they are and if they have performed there in the past. Then, some advertisement and last but not least the food you can choose from for your meal.
If you want to host an event at this place, they have many rooms that you can rent for different prices depending on how many people you will bring and the size of the room you choose. You can find more information in the official website.
I am creative in my own way and I prefer cinematographic shows rather than theater plays, but I did take part in plays in the past and I can say that this was very fun, I really enjoyed watching people performing with a full stomach. When I go to movie theaters I usually don't buy snacks because they are expensive but by the end of the movie I am starved and all I can think about is food! I am exaggerating a little bit, but I am pretty sure whoever is reading right now understands me perfectly.
