Granada - Red Sunset on Alhambra
Red Sunset on Alhambra.
We spent a whole day resting and recovering our energy, as planned, today we would discover the city of Granada including Ancient Arabic market, Cathedral de Granada and climb up to the top of Mirador San Nicolas hill where we could have the famous view to watch the whole Alhambra.
- Albaicin, Old Arabic Market
Albaicin is an old Arab market in Granada, many of business people here are Muslims coming from North Africa, Pakistan and Syria.
At the end of the market is the Grand Cathedral de Granada, I could easily image the vibrant center of the old Muslim city, besides the Grand Mosque.
- Granada Cathedral
I have a question for you guys. Guess where the mosque used to be here in Granada...
The correct answer is that it is just right here, in the location of the Grand Cathedral de Granada.
I would say that the Mosque of Granada has been crushed by the Grand Cathedral de Granada.
In my opinion, I believe that the main basic idea of this Cathedral Architecture is the greatestness of God, the supreme power of Christian, basically due to the special location where the mosque used to stand.
It is the fact that Spanish Christians have tried to remove the black age of Muslims ruled in Spain, so by many ways, they are representing that idea in this church.
- Cathedral de Granada - the architure of the conquerors
The architecture of conquerors should present the power, the Reconquista covering the losers, it explains the similarities of Granada Cathedral and many Catholic Cathedrals that Spanish People built in Latin American.
After visting Granada Cathedral, we have been attracted and lingered by the flavor of Arabic ingredients. Arabic people love ingredients and use these various ingredients in their food.
- Azafran - Spanish special ingredient for food.
There is one ingredient called Azafran, which is the most important ingredient for making a Spanish famous food such as the paella.
Azafran or Crocus sativus
Styles and stigmas of C. sativus are dried
I guess we also must know this funny quota – if we don’t have Espana, we will not have Paella.
Paella is the one of the most world famous Spanish dishes.
- Arab teas
I have also taken a look at these Arab teas.
Herbs and spices are sesame, saffron, Black pepper, Allspice, turmeric, garlic, cumin, cinnamon, parsley, coriander and sumac.
Spice mixtures include baharat, ras el hanout, za'atar and harissa.
- Comparision between Asia Tea and Arab Tea
I was born in ThaiNguyen, a town in the northeast of Vietnam, which is famous for its green tea. Although my family does not have any tea field, I love tea and the art of making tea in Asia.
Asian tea is bitter at the first taste but sweet then the tea is flowing through your throat.
Arab tea is sweet, cool at the first taste, easier to try and drink for every begginers.
- Muslim's clothes
Then, we went to buy some Muslim clothes. The prices of clothes are not so expensive, but remember to bargain because it's normal for people from Middle East or North Africa. And usually they will overprice for tourists.
I have bought a hat and a shirt to make me look like an Arabic businessman, in fact Muslims will wear white hat for praying, so that is the reason why they sell color hats for tourists like me.
After another 1 km of climbing up the mountain, we have reached Mirador San Nicolas, this is the perfect position where we can have a wide view over Alhambra.
- Red Sunset on Alhambra
The view of Alhambra especially her sunset is so famous that in 1991, there was an significant event in which President Bill Clinton and his family companied by Spanish King Royal Family had visited this site and watched the sunset over Alhambra together
