Why did you choose to go to Evora, Portugal?

The course that I'm following has its first mobility destination in Evora.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship is for two years, from 2018 to 2020. My course fees are covered by the scholarship and I get 1000Euro/month for expenses. That's a huge amount

What is the student lifestyle like in Evora?

Students don't always engage in studies. They go on trips, party, and there are a lot of special functions organized by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Evora. For my first semester, I have more than 5 exams. So I didn't have much time to travel around.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Evora to other students?

Definitely. I came here because I had to. But after coming here, I feel I'm lucky to get selected to the program.

What is the food like?

You'll have many options. I think there are more than 30 restaurants inside the historical center. You can tase typical Portuguese cuisines as well as food from other countries like pasta and pizza.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Evora?

No. There are groups on facebook where people post about accommodation options

How much does it cost to live in Evora?

For me, it cost about 25-30 in the first month, excluding the amounts for winter clothes.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Portuguese is taught as a part of my course. For those who speak latin languages, like Italian, I think its easy. But if you give some effort each day, language skills can be improved. I think at least 1 year is needed to be able to speak and write properly.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Evora from your city?

I'm a Sri Lankan, so I flew to Lisbon and from there took a bus to Evora.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Evora?

Sure. Giraldo Square is the best place to stick with friends in an evening. Most restaurants are also open till late night.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Evora?

Salsa Verde. The menu is 6.50 Euros or something like that.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Evora Cathedral
Temple of Diana
Evora Museum
Evora aqueduct
Megalithic monument of Alamanderes
Remains of the Roman city beneath the municipal building

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Evora in the future?

If the currency of your country is very low comparing to Euro, It's better to bring small stuff from your country. e.g.: toothbrushes, toothpaste, notebooks, medicine. Bring winter clothes also if you can.
