My Erasmus experience in Enschede, the Netherlands, by Iryna
Why did you choose to go to Enschede, the Netherlands?
I was selected for this university based on my professional project.
How long did you stay in Enschede? How much funding did you receive?
I stayed for 6 months and received 2000€.
What is student life like in Enschede?
Enschede is full of students, there are two universities: Saxion and Twente. The atmosphere is quite lively.
Would you recommend the city and the university to other students?
Yes, I'd highly recommend this destination.
What is the food like?
As far as restaurants are concerned, there are more restaurants that offer foreign cuisine than traditional Dutch food. At lunchtime they don't really eat a sit-down meal, only a sandwich. They have a proper meal in the evening.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Enschede?
I found accommodation through the Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
What is the cost of living like?
More or less the same as in France but food is a bit cheaper.
How did you find learning the language? Did you take part in any classes organised by the university?
All of the courses are in English.
What is the cheapest way of getting to Enschede?
Bike.
Where would you recommend going out in Enschede?
Paddy's, Fellini...in the main square (with the church) you'll also find a lot of bars and nightclubs.
And for food? Where are your favourite places?
Happy Italy.
Any advice for future students in Enschede?
Even though the weather is not the best, I quickly fell in love with my life in Enschede; I met people from all over the world while living in student accommodation. The Saxion University of Applied Sciences is a great building and has all the amenities you need to live and study. The city has a great atmosphere and is full of students. I'd definitely recommend it.
