National student living in Delft
Why did you choose to go to Delft, Netherlands?
Because it has a program I am interested in that is on a high level (Aerospace Engineering), and I live relatively close (basically Amsterdam).
What is the student lifestyle like in Delft?
Quite fractured. First I study with one group of friends, then I have some kind of other activity (debating, judo) with another group of friends and then I go to the student association for a drink with another group of friends.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Delft to other students?
Yes, seeing as TU Delft is a great university with fun people. The city itself doesn't have that many places to go out, though. This isn't a problem however, because in less than half an hour you can be in Rotterdam where the night life is vibrant.
What is the food like?
You can get food for cheap (+- 4 euros) at the student associations and the canteen, although sometimes the taste is a bit lacking.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Delft?
Yes. As a Dutch student it is very hard to find accommodation in Delft. For international students however, there is a special reception for finding housing, and I believe it isn't too hard to find it for them.
How much does it cost to live in Delft?
For me... around 800 euros a month?
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are language courses available at the TU Delft.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Delft?
With a bike (in Delft) or with a train (outside Delft).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Delft?
Haha, what night out? I guess the movies, the woods, or... maybe a bar?
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Delft?
Any of the student association canteens are interesting to visit.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The historical center of Delft and maybe some of the museums there.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Delft in the future?
A bike is a MUST, and you can buy it on the black market for cheap (everybody does it). Don't forget to buy a chain lock and attach your bike to something in the night (or better yet, have some kind of storage space for it).
