What is it like to live in Delft? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a nice city for people that don't like the big cities but also want to have everything near by. It's packed with students and the architecture is great. I really recommend it because it has a great connection with cities like Rotterdam and The Hague but is a lot cheaper.

What is the student lifestyle like in Delft?

I don't study at Delft myself but the campus is relatively big. The university mainly consists of guys and has a very high world ranking. There are a lot of internationals there too.

How much does it cost to live in Delft?

It depends on where you would like to live since Delft isn't really that big, you can pretty much live anywhere in the city and it is a lot cheaper than other Dutch cities like Utrecht or Amsterdam.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Delft? Is there any advice you can give?

Finding accommodation in Delft mainly depends on where you want to live, they have a lot of student housing in many different places in the city and in my opinion the city doesn't really have "stay away" areas. You can also try to find a place in the city centre but those are mainly connected to student associations so that might be a bit more difficult.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Delft is pretty basic: Italian, Greek, burgers etc. I like Minos a lot, it's in the city centre on the main square and it's cheap & fast but pretty decent Greek food. There's also a cheese tasting place if you like cheese.

What places would you recommend visiting in Delft?

It depends on what you like if you love history and culture, Delft will be the perfect city for you since we have a lot. I definitely recommend everyone to climb the so-called new church, go to "rinsenhof" and visit the old church called "Scheve Jan" or "Oude Jan". If you like to shop go on a trip to Rotterdam or The Hague both take less than 15 mins by train and if you're feeling sporty you can actually bike there, which should be less than an hour.

Is it good to eat out in Delft? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I mainly go for a quick bite at the main square but in my opinion the food is decent, like in most of the Netherlands. I also like to go for a drink on the "Beestenmarkt". The bierfabriek (beer factory) is also a very popular place to grab a drink or eat.

Is the nightlife good in Delft? Where is good to go?

Okay I'm gonna be honest with you guys, in my opinion, the nightlife in Delft sucks, so I tend to go out in Rotterdam or The Hague. You have some nightclubs in Delft; Ciccio, Steck (for a true Dutch night) and Lorre. I do know that for students of the technical university there is more out there. I do want to mention that for me for instance it doesn't matter since there are trains to Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam the whole night everyday so you can always go there.

What advice would you give future students heading to Delft?

I recommend you to go for some sightseeing and culture sniffing the first few days since it truly is a beautiful city. I also recommend you to get a bike immediately, preferably a cheap one so it won't get stolen. At the university the people are very nice and helpful and to be honest it is a great school (just too much physics for me haha). You should also get something in the color "Delfts Blauw" (Delfts blue) and try "stroopwafels" (syrup waffles) of course. You can get great ones at the Saturday market.
