Hey!

I am from Barcelona and I was doing my Erasmus in Craiova during the last fall semester. Below I will summarize my experience.

Even though I knew where I was going, at first I was kinda shocked because of some cultural differences. Therefore I recommend you to take it as an exciting adventure. Instead of complaining about everything, from the begining I could appreciate all the beauty of this Balkan region called Oltenia.

Regarding the faculty, I could learn many new concepts and discover different methodologies. However, some professors were conservative to a bizarre and ridiculous point, which isn't necessarily negative because in my opinion Erasmus is about discovering new academic and social realities. On the other hand, all the professors were very tolerant and comprehensive with me.

Once you get your student card, you can travel all around the country by train for free. This advantage allowed me to visit different regions, hence to broaden my perspective and my cultural knowledge of Romania.

Before arriving in Craiova, I already had learnt some basical vocabulary and expressions in Romanian. Even if many people can speak English, knowing some Romanian will be very helpful for you and they will see that you show respect for their language.

To sum up, Craiova is a welcoming and also a typical eastern European city. Therefore it will be a great place for your Erasmus if you are ready to experience exciting adventures and if you are interested in the Romanian and Balkan cultures.
