Experience in Craiova, Romania by Catanescu
What is it like to live in Craiova? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
The city is nice, not that big but still an important city which i would recommend to visity. There are many things you can see, museums, a big nice theather, the old town which is really nice and we have the second biggest natural park in Europe, Nicolae Romanescu.
What is the student lifestyle like in Craiova?
For students there are special parties every week, and of cours in the weekends. There are few discounts at the gyms and transport.
How much does it cost to live in Craiova?
The cost of living in Craiova is very good. You can find accommodation for a nice appartament with 2 rooms is around 150-200 euro and the city is not that big so anything is close and accesible. The food is also very cheap and the drinks too. A beer is around 50 cents in supermarket and 1-2 euro in the old town.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Craiova? Is there any advice you can give?
It is very easy to find accommodation, there are many appartaments for rent and they are really cheap.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
If you visit Romania, you must try some traditional food like : sarmale, mamaliga, mici and also try and drink some tuica. I like all of them, and food in general so i can't decide which one i prefer.
What places would you recommend visiting in Craiova?
You should visit the Nicolae Romanescu park, Muzeul Olteniei, Muzeul de Arta, Gradina Botanica, Muzeul Teatrului National, Palatul Jean Mihail. And there are many other things to see near the city like Manastire Cozia, Pestera Polovragi, Pestera Muierilor...
Is it good to eat out in Craiova? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There are some locals where the food is really good. My favourite ones are : Big Ben, Craft, La Rocca(with traditional romanian food), Soho, Iberico.
Is the nightlife good in Craiova? Where is good to go?
In the summer there are 2 really nice places to go called Krypton Sky Club and Trend Summer Dine and Vibe. In the rest of the season you can go in the Old Town, at One Club which is in the center also and at Krypton.
What advice would you give future students heading to Craiova?
If you decided to go, you will have a good time. The people are really nice and almost everyone understands english. The city is cheap so you shouldn't worry about money or accommodation either. The teachers, from my experience so far ar willing to help you anything you do not understand and so far i meet only good prepared teachers.
