Experience Erasmus in Cordoba, Spain by Aline

Why did you choose to go to Cordoba, Spain?

I have always been attracted to Spain: the culture, the language, etc. And I always wanted to discover Andalusia. So, Cordoba was the perfect compromise!

How long was your stay? What kind of aid did you receive?

I was there for 5 months, and I received a little more than 1000€ between the scholarship of my region and the Erasmus scholarship for 5 the months.

How is the student ambiance of Cordoba?

The ambiance is top-tier! There are both local and Erasmus students and different Erasmus organizations. Everyone takes their time to enjoy the present moment, it's nice.

Would you recommend the city and university of Cordoba to other students?

Absolutely!

How is the food in the country?

The food is good, mostly in the bars (tapas) and the restaurants. But in supermarkets, the quality and diversity of the products could be better.

Did you have difficulty finding housing in Cordoba?

No, I found my apartment thanks to Erasmus, which was efficient and safe.

What is the cost of living in Cordoba?

In general, the cost of living is pretty much the same, and for certain products or services, a little bit cheaper.

How is your experience of learning the language going? Do you have courses organized by the University?

It's going very well, I just go out and talk to people to improve. Personally, I did not take a language course in Cordoba because I took years of Spanish classes in France, and I think it's better to immerse yourself in the culture than stay in a classroom, but to each his own.

Otherwise I find that 5 months is a bit to learn a language, and I would not mind a little more time.

What is the cheapest way to get to Cordoba from your hometown?

I have no idea! I chose to go by car with my parents so I could take all my belongings and travel a little. But certainly some prefer to take plane or train.

What places do you recommend for partying in Cordoba?

Banagher Irish Pub or O'Donoghue's are unavoidable bars for Erasmus students! And for clubs, Bambu and Góngora, which have Erasmus gatherings pretty regularly.

And for eating in Cordoba? What are your favorite places?

I don't have a favorite place... the best is to go out and taste everything! Otherwise, I recommend the Mercado Victoria; there's plenty of different things and it's rather inexpensive.

And what cultural things do you recommend?

The Mezquita obviously! Alcazar also, which is a must. There is also the Castillo Almodovar, very nice to visit.

What advice do you have for future students in Cordoba?

Enjoy it as much as possible! The city is perfect for the 5 or 10 best months of your life... Going out, sports, restaurants, parties, bars, etc. Also, don't hesitate to talk to the locals, go out in the streets, take the time... (and go to your classes, of course!)
