Erasmus Experience in Córdoba, Spain by Ellen
Why did you choose to go to Córdoba, Spain?
Because I didn't have other choice in that part of Spain.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I had 11 months scholarship. 300 euros per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Córdoba?
Borrrrrrriiiing! Same people everywhere. You can met them in every club/bar/place you go. They say that feria is something worth to see - but for me is not. A lot of heavy drinkers. Almost same music in every tent. Yeap - party of my dreams!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Córdoba to other students?
City - no. University - yes.
What is the food like?
If you are lucky maybe you will find some good restaurant. For me i. e. Moriles is a big misunderstanding. I can agree that the price is ok, but quality - no thank you. Better to buy food in the local small shops and cook at home. If you want to try some "typical" Spanish stuff go to the CouchSurfers cooking meetings.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Córdoba?
Yes. Because in the first few days I had to live in hostel. But finding a place/flat/room is not a big problem. There are a lot of ad's on the street - and that is the best way to find some place. Go to the district or street you'd like to live and search there.
How much does it cost to live in Córdoba?
I paid around 200 euros for a single room in a 4-rooms flat in a quite good standard. The room was big and had everything what you need to live.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
If you know some rules or basics - yes. I found some free langue courses in the Philology department (calle Tejón y Marin). I don't know what else is there. But for sure the CouchSurfers or ESN community will help you to get your language skills up. There are many adverts of language exchange, ie. Spanish for English, or Germany.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Córdoba from your city?
Plane to Malaga and then Blablacar or adverts in the Facebook. Sometimes i used bus (it was around 11 euros with ESN discount card). If you have less than 26 years you will have also discounts for trains (which are much faster - 45min - 1h from Malaga to Cordoba).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Córdoba?
I don't know. You have many places to go. Try them all.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Córdoba?
Nope.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Mezquita they say. But I'm not a tourist person. So I enjoyed walks through the city with my friends.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Córdoba in the future?
Prepare for everything.
