Erasmus Experience in Copenhagen, Denmark by Marie
Why did you choose to go to Copenhagen, Denmark?
I wanted to improve my English and Copenhagen is a good place for it. Also, i had never been to Scandinavia, i am usually more attracted by sunny and warm countries, so it was the occasion to discover a new culture. Before my stay, I had already heard about danish people and their fantastic (and healthy) lifestyle and i have to say i am not disappointed !
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship covers a 5 month-period. We received 70% of it in the middle of our stay, then the last 30% after the mobility.
I received 1100 euros (or the equivalent of 8100 dk of for these 5 month).
What is the student lifestyle like in Copenhagen?
Chilling ! The number of study hours is usually low in Danemark, so we have plenty time to visit the city and to participate to every events !
Parties and nightlife in Copenhagen are great !
Would you recommend the city and the University of Copenhagen to other students?
Without any doubt, the University of Copenhagen is fantastic and i highly recommand it. The city is great as well and Danish people are nice. HOWEVER, if you have a small budget, or if you do not have a student room/a flat/reliable contacts in the city, you must be aware that Copenhagen is crowded ! There is a lot of people (especially students) but not enough accomodation ! It is a war to find a descent place to live, and the rents are really high.
What is the food like?
Food is like everywhere, but the Danish touch is to cook with a lot of plants, berries and seed. It is often very organic, light and delicious !
Pork and fish dishes are excellent as well.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Copenhagen?
Yes a lot, i was "homeless" during one month and a half before i finally found something.
How much does it cost to live in Copenhagen?
Around 5000dk/5100dk per month (670/730euros).
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Danish is really complicated, and i was more focus on english.
Many Danish courses are offered for student.
