Erasmus Experience in Copenhagen, Denmark by Carla
Why did you choose to go to Copenhagen, Denmark?
Because it had very good references. I study primary education and education in this country is very advanced. I also came for the standard of living and the people from this country are known as being very kind, nice and peaceful.
How long is the scholarship for? How much money do you receive as aid?
I receive 2, 500 euros in total, for the 5 months. With these 2, 500 euros, I can only pay the rent of the student house where I reside. The standard of living here is very high. If you go to Copenhagen, save up! Everything is really expensive.
How is student life in Copenhagen?
There are many Erasmus students and you will meet a lot of people. The problem is that the Danish students are usually rather reserved and don't open up to the tourists.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Copenhagen to other students?
Yes, but if you love partying then perhaps not. Personally, I love to go out and to do a lot of things but the climate here often impides it.
How is the country's food?
There aren't traditional dishes. It's pretty similar to Spanish. I always cook for myself at home and you can usually find what you're looking for in the supermarkets.
Was it hard to find accommodation in Copenhagen?
No, the University provided the accommodation (UCC) but I have to say that it costs a lot if the University doesn't help you.
How much does it cost to live in Copenhagen?
Around €500 a month (without spending a lot on going out).
How is the language? Did you go to any courses at the University?
Very good, everyone understands English and it's like the second language here. I went to a course in Danish, which the University provides for free.
What is the most economical way of getting to Copenhagen from your city?
By train, with the youth travel card (a discount card for students).
Which places would you recommend to go out to party in Copenhagen?
Aloha, Minibar, High Voltage, Vibe, Bakken.
And to eat in Copenhagen? Can you name your favourite places?
Dalle Valle, MacDonalds.

Any advice that you want to give to future students in Copenhagen?
Come at a time of the year when it isn't too cold (the first semester, for example). Save money up and above all, have a really good time!
