What is it like to live in Cairo? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a vibrant city that has people from all over the world. The problem is: it's mostly a Muslim conservative culture. So you have to cover up to avoid harassment. PDA is not tolerated. However, you can still find good nightspots where you can drink, dance, and enjoy life.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cairo?

If you want to study in Cairo, go to AUC, GUC, or BUE. Don't go anywhere else. They won't speak English there.

How much does it cost to live in Cairo?

It doesn't cost much to live in Cairo. Rent is about 1500-2500 LE per room per month in good neighborhoods. Food shouldn't cost more than 3000 LE per person per month. If you cook your own food, food can cost you about 1500 LE/month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cairo? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult at all. You can go to the Facebook groups: Cairo Scholars, Egypt Roommates. And go on Craigslist as well.

If you have a broker, his commission should be about one month rent if you're renting the apartment for more than a year, and 10 % of your total rent-worth if you're staying for less than a year. Make sure you're clear with the broker about this before you look at any apartment.

You basically want to live on Zamalek, Mohandiseen, Dokki, Maadi, or Downtown, if you are staying in non-gated communities. Gated communities will even be cooler.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can find almost all kind of food you want. My favorite dish is a mix-grill platter.

Vegetarians will also have a good variety of food to choose from.

Is the nightlife good in Cairo? Where is good to go?

You should go out in Zamalek and Helipolis.
