About the clubs

I haven't been writing for 4 days or so, I've been a bit busy, I had my midterm test this morning. It was kind of shitty because we had to write an argumentation on a topic that we were given today in the class, which means without any preparation. Yeah, the professor gave us like 10 general topics so we could prepare some vocabulary at home, but the today's topic didn't have anything to do with any of those so I guess you could say it was without preparation. I hope I'll pass, by some miraculous luck.

This weekend was like almost every other so far, lots of alcohol, club and sleeping till 2 pm. It was a bit different, though, because I was hanging out with two guests of my friend, an American guy and a Serbian girl. On Friday I went with them sightseeing, showed them the town a little bit. I'll put some pictures here.

It is very hard for me but I must admit I'm not a good tour guide, hahaha; I don't know any history, I'm barely able to find my ways in the streets and I don't know any great local restaurants. Oh, and I don't speak Czech. But still, it was fun, at least I managed to get us back home (taken from the mouth of Mr. American guy named Tom). However, now I know one restaurant here where they have really great (Czech) food and delicious beer. It's called ČERNOHORSKÁ PIVNICE , you can Czech it out here. I highly recommend it, with just a little remark that you have to wait a bit long to get the food, so it's better to go there if you're not starving at the moment being. But their beer makes the waiting period pretty ok :D

One of the other things that made our sightseeing interesting was a big pink bunny walking up and the down the Náměstí Svobody, the main square.

Tom got obsessed with that guy, who was actually just working for Tally Weijl, they have this new collection or sth, so he was carrying pink balloons and taking pictures with people. Poor guy, he was really nice (and, of course, didn't speak any English). Tom wanted to ask him where did he get that costume and if he wanted to go for a beer with us, but the guy didn't understand, and I as a current resident of Czech Republic didn't know how to ask it in Czech.

But Tom didn't give up; we went into the Tally Weijl store and he asked the girl who worked there if they had pink bunny costume to sell. If only I could have recorded that conversation, the girl's confused and Tom's serious face, I would be saved. It was so funny. But, I do have some tapes of Tom hopping like a bunny and the Serbian girl named Monika stealing a decoration from the Christmas tree. :D

In the evening there was a huge basement party in our dormitories (Vinařská Hall, Block A1), because three people (I think) were celebrating their birthday and there was also a bunch of smaller room parties that all ended up in the basement.

Later, Two Faces (Two Faces), a pretty popular club here, almost always crowded, popular club music, entrance fee 50 Czech crowns (approximately 2 Euros). Drink prices are decent; waiting line for the wardrobe is never-ending, unless you come there earlier than usual, which is around 1 am; there are two bars, one in the floor ground and one upstairs; there is a small pool. All in all, it's an okay club.

  • Now that I'm talking about clubs, I personally like Metro (http://www.metromusic.cz/), because they play some cool music, more rock and stuff. The club is small, not really good looking, but the music makes up for it.
  • Then, 7nebe (http://www.7nebe.cz/), a club where I am almost every Wednesday because of the Erasmus parties; it has two dancefloors, each with a different type of music and two bars.
  • Livingstone (http://www.livingstoneclub.cz/en/), I was there only once, it was at the beer marathon after party, it was quite good. The club has a stage and some interesting wooden statues, nothing fancy so I liked it.
  • Fleda (http://fleda.cz/) was the first club that I went to when I first got here and I didn't really like it, I guess because the music sucked. I can't remember now but on one dance floor it was either dubstep or trance, and on the other one it was some older trashy music and Czech songs. I haven't been there since, but I should check it again, maybe it was just a bad first impression. The good thing about this place is that it's huge.
  • Furthermore, Caribic (http://www.caribic.cz/) was a cool club, the only problem is that is racist. What I mean is, when we tried to get in for the first time, they didn't let us in because we were not Czechs. I mean, come on, what kind of policy is that? We did get in one time, I guess now they let even the foreigners on Tuesdays or sth like that because of the student parties, but it was nothing special; DJ was not really good, beer was expensive, too crowded.
  • And now, one club that I loved was Mandarin (http://www.mandarinclub.cz/); yes, it was fancy, but still it was great. I spent most of my time on the dance floor so I didn't have the feeling it was classy. The music was great.

Of course, there are some other clubs as well, I'm in the process of discovering them so I'll keep you posted :)

Now it's time for some studying and later... I guess Santana. Yeah, in short, Santana is a pub 5 minutes from Vinařská, a normal Czech pub with beer and they have food as well. Every monday we spend our evenings there, drinking and usually singing the karaoke. Unfortunately for the pub, they have a karaoke jukebox and a microphone (not really good one), so we are starting every new week there.

Ok, I go now.

I would really like for you to get the extension, so that i have a place to come to during my stay in Graz... your tourguide skills should get better by then... and I can't believe that you still don't speak czech, they understand croatian ( at least during their stay in croatia in summer months)... next time try to use a weird version of croatian maybe it'll work :P

Trust me, I want that extension as well, the deadline for applying is in 4 days, after that I hope I'll know sth more... You coming here to visit, omg, that would be legendary, I can already tell. And I wanna go to Graz, of course :D Well, I can say a couple of basic sentences, and I can understand them a little bit, but it's more difficult than you would think. If I get that scholarship to stay another semester, I'll take Czech lessons, no worries ;)
