What is it like to live in Boston? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Boston is a very comfortable and safe city. There is always something to do and a plethora of interesting/cute cafés and restaurants. It is a smaller city than NYC, and more peaceful. The city has several green areas (the Emerald necklace) and distinct neighborhoods with their own quirks. Also, you can easily get across the river to Cambridge, which has more cafes and a more town-like feel. I would recommend studying abroad in Boston because it is a great city to explore. However, I suggest studying there in the summer/fall months, as in the winter/spring, it is extremely cold.

What is the student lifestyle like in Boston?

As a student in Boston, you often get many perks in terms of student prices to events at theaters, museums, and concerts. There are tons of events every week in Boston, so there is always something to do on the weekends. Furthermore, there are a lot of places to study whether on or off campus.

How much does it cost to live in Boston?

Living in Boston is expensive. However, by buying groceries rather than eating out, and using public transportation rather than Uber/Lyft, you can save a lot of money.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Boston? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult, but it is expensive. I suggest looking in a Boston housing Facebook group, and seeking help from whatever school you are studying abroad with.

What places would you recommend visiting in Boston?

Boston Common, Charles River Esplanade, the aquarium, the Boston Public Library, the North End, the South End

Is it good to eat out in Boston? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Boston has a wide variety of fantastic restaurants. If you are craving Italian food, I suggest going to the North End, which is the Italian district of Boston, and trying any of the restaurants there. One fantastic restaurant is Giacomo's, but definitely make a reservation and bring cash to pay. On your way home, definitely grab some cannoli from Modern Pastry. If you are looking for good brunch options, I suggest Metropolis or Masa in the South End, Tatte's bakery (Fenway, Beacon Hill, and Cambridge locations) and the North St Grille in the North End. If you want to share a meal, I suggest getting Ethiopian food at Blue Nile or Lucy's Ethiopian. In Cambridge for the day? Check out Felipe's for delicious Mexican food and The Friendly Toast for breakfast.

Is the nightlife good in Boston? Where is good to go?

I have heard the nightlife in Boston is good once you are 21. However, if you are under 21 it is hard to get into any bars, as they tend to be 21+.

What advice would you give future students heading to Boston?

Study at the Boston Public Library- there is a huge reading room where it's easy to really focus. Go to the Haymarket Farmers market on Friday/Saturday to grab bulk amounts of produce for cheap. Check out the SOWA open market on a Sunday.
