What is it like to live in Boston? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

The city has 60 plus universities and plenty of bars, pubs and clubs to go, both in Boston and in near by Cambridge. It is a very cosmopolitan city since students come from everywhere. You really have the chance to meet at least one person from every country in the world!

The winter is very cold and snowy, which changes the outdoor activities in the city and pushes you to go to one of the more than 50 ski resorts in New England. There are snow parks and all sorts of attractions to enjoy the winter and the snow.

The summer is just beautiful! You can run by the river at any time because it's an extremely safe city. You can kayak, sail or windsurf in the Charles river and enjoy a unique view of downtown Boston while in the water. The beach is 30 minutes away by metro, and it's really cool too because it has all the services typical from an American city.

What is the student lifestyle like in Boston?

There are so many students from everywhere that student life is amazing in Boston. You have some of the best schools in the USA a few blocks away from each other, fantastic libraries and great museums to visit. MIT, Harvard, Boston University and several other amazing universities offer great programs for summer school for international students. Besides, they are considered top universities!

Parties organized by schools, fraternities or sororities are really cool and happen almost every night in Boston and Cambridge.

How much does it cost to live in Boston?

It's on the expensive side for the income students usually have, but it's not difficult to find friends to share apartments with, supermarkets where things are reasonably priced and bars/pubs where you pay zero to get in and a pint of beer costs 4/5 dollars.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Boston? Is there any advice you can give?

There are many websites that provide information regarding apartments for rent. I would definitely advise any student to get his/her own apartment with friends in order to enjoy independence in this amazing city. Dorms and university residences can be a solution for short term stays, but their price won't be significantly different from a shared apartment.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is awesome, mainly Irish food and local fish. I love Maine lobster and you can get some of the best in most restaurants in the city.

What places would you recommend visiting in Boston?

Harvard campus, MIT campus, downtown and financial districts, Charles river, south station, museum of fine arts and museum of science.

Is it good to eat out in Boston? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is very good! My main choice because of price, quality and variety is Legal Sea Food. There are several restaurants of this franchise all around the city.

Is the nightlife good in Boston? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is awesome! Venu, Royale, Underbar, Phoenix Landing and Middlesex are some of the places I love, but there are so many that is hard to choose between them.

What advice would you give future students heading to Boston?

Take the chance to live the real American life in a city that is safe, welcoming, and full of smart and interesting people. There is a before and after when you become a student in Boston, so enjoy every second of this amazing experience!

And hey, before you go, did you know Boston is home to some of the best universities in the world? If you want to learn some more, check out this post about all the top universities for your degree: What are the best universities in the world?
