900 kilometres to my new adventure

The 22nd of January was the day - my first Erasmus adventure was going to start. Months of preparation, goodbyes and paperwork were finished, and I just had to get into the car and start driving into the unknown. Yes, I decided to go by car because like that I could take (almost) as many things with me as I wanted, and I wasn't limited to 23 kg.

Exploring Luxembourg - First Stop

So, after saying goodbye to my boyfriend I started my journey, full of expectations, fears and excitement. The first stop was Luxembourg for one night because I didn't want to drive all the 900 kilometres all on one day. I arrived about 7 hours later at my hotel and even if I was quite tired, I wanted to go out and see the city a bit. So, I walked around Luxembourg, drank a coffee and was not quite sure if I should talk English, German or French, so I am sure the people I tried to talk with were a bit confused about me. As it was quite cold and already dark, I returned to my hotel to relax some hours because I had to get up very early the next day.

Getting to know my Tutor

Suddenly, there was a message from an unknown person in Facebook popping up at my phone. It was in French. The person told me that he was my tutor during my time at Amiens and that he will help me with all problems and questions I might have. I remembered that I filled out a form in the internet some time ago but actually I would never have expected that someone would really respond! So, I was already quite happy, because he invited me to do ice skating with him and some other English people the next evening - that meant that I would not be alone my first evening abroad in the new city. One of my largest fears - not finding any friends - seemed to disappear even before I really arrived - what a great start!

Arriving to my new home - 9m²

The next day I continued my journey at 5 a. m. In order to arrive in time at the student's residency. Half dead because I was so tired, I finally found the reception and could - after some paperwork of course - get into my new room. 9 square metres, without kitchen, but at least with a half a square metre bathroom and shower. It was really, really small, but I liked it because at the same time it was clean and comfortable. So, I had to go about 5 or 6 times to get all my stuff from the car into my room (disadvantage of going by car) but then I finally felt like I was arrived. And even if I was very, very, very tired - the day had just begun...
