The visitor

“9th of October. Three people are ordering some coffees at Robert´s coffe in Viru Keskus. Two of them are Erasmus, and they live in Tallinn since August. One of them is a visitor. She comes from Spain. Autumn in Spain is being really warm. The three of them go to the bar.

-One nespresso and two cappuccinos, to take away, please-

They Erasmus guys take the nespresso and one capuccino, they add sugar, they pick a small spoon and they walk to the door. The other girl, called “the visitor”, take her capuccino, she adds sugar on it and, while she was walking to the door, she stops.

-Hey guys!! Where are you going? That is the main door. If you continue you go outside-

-Yes, that is the idea-

-But… It is raining, and.. it is cold-

-C´mon!! It is not cold!! It is four degrees!!! We can sit down in the roofed terrace and drink our coffee calmly-

The visitor look at them. Astonished. But… They are talking seriously”

Poor visitor… She came from the warm and sunny Spain and, suddenly, she arrived to the cold, dark and rainy Tallinn. But she should had been happy!! It was four degrees!! It was “warm”. We had temperature!!

But, as the poor visitor could not understand us, we could not understand her.

“Same day. Different hour. The visitor and her two Erasmus friends walk into Viru Keskus´ supermarket. They have a birthday tonight. They have to buy some food and some drinks to bring to the party. They already have a birthday present. They buy the needed things and they leave”.

Poor visitor… She was frozen… Her coat was not useful against the Estonian weather. After buying some things, the visitor and her Erasmus friend went home, they took a shower and they changed her clothes.

“Same day. Late in the nite. The visitor and her two friends are in the birthday party. There are like forty or more people there. The two Erasmus friends go to the kitchen and they open the window to get some fresh air. Then, the visitor follows them, she open the window and she gets some fresh air”.

The visitor did not complain about the weather during that night. Not even during the rest of her days there. Maybe because she got used to the Estonian weather or maybe due to other things.

But…

That was autumn in Tallinn, cold and rainy, but warm and funny, at the same time.
