Once up a time... A Master's Degree in Europe!

Well, I've finally created this blog to share tips and experiences of the Erasmus Life!

For starters, I'll leave you guys with a small report of how everything started, hehe.

I'd just returned from Science Without Borders in Vigo (Spain) to finish my degree in Oceanography at the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil).

Since always, my plan was to do my Master's in Brazil. Unfortunately, I wasn't on time to sign up for the only degree I was actually interested in, in the Southeast of the country. Until today I cannot understand how that happened, but when I realised, I must confess, I felt a bit lost.

My school year of 2013 was coming to an end and I was in my studies with no idea of what to do next. I had tried searching for other courses in Brazil but nothing seemed relevant enough.

Then, by mere curiosity, I started looking for courses outside (those with a chance of getting a scholarship - obviously, I'm not rich, haha), but I knew that the value of scholarships outside of Brazil was a lot lower than the ones for a PhD... I didn't have much hope...

Until the day I decided to ask in a Linkedin group if anyone could suggest a PhD (with no hope to get an answer! I swear! ) with the same topic as the group (Maritime planing). Linkedin is a Professional social Network. I find it very cool because you can contact experts from your area and exchange ideas.

To my surprise, many people answered me. And amongst their suggestions there was the Erasmus Master's in Maritime Space Planing.

I analysed the other suggestions, but this degree in particular was the one that caught my eye. The edict had been out already (or it was going to come out, I cannot remember exactly). I took a look at the requisites and thought "Yes... I think I can take that risk". And to my utter joy it worked out! :D

In my next post, I'll explain how I prepared for my application.

Kisses!

PS. If you want you can share this with your family/friends. One of my objectives is to encourage and support students to do a degree outside their country they always dreamt of.
