History of the MEC Scholarships

In the first year, the Ministry of Education and Science ( Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, or MEC ) in Madrid, Spain offered scholarships to study English overseas. Each scholarship was for a maximum of 1,600 Euros. A total of 53,125 scholarships were offered to students in Spain. The MEC scholarships were specifically for students in English language courses overseas.

Eligibility Requirements for the 2007 MEC Scholarships

To be eligible for MEC scholarships, students were required to also be registered in university programs in Spain. MEC scholarship applicants were also required to be between the ages of 18 and 30 years. Scholarship students were allowed to study in: Australia, Canada, the United States, Malta, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the Republic of Ireland.

The MEC scholarships were well received by the students. Consequently, many Spanish students studied English overseas in the first year. VEC welcomes MEC scholarship students in 2008.

VEC MEC Scholarship Package Program

The table below shows the total fees, as well as how many students from Spain that we are able to accept during each session. The fees include: Materials, Application, Airport Reception, Half-board Homestay Accommodation (21 nights), and Tuition (15 hours per week). Airfare is not included.

MEC Scholarship Highlights

  • MEC Scholarships are a maximum of 1600 Euros per student.
  • MEC Scholarships include: Homestay, Travel and Tuition in an English language program.
  • MEC Scholarships are for people born between January 1, 1977 and December 31, 1989.
  • The English course must be three weeks in duration and a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • The English course must be taken between June 1 and November 30.
