Computer education
Recommendation to study Computer education to future students at Charles University
Greetings future students of Computer Education, during this paper I am going tell you why I choose computer education as one of my subjects during my Erasmus stay in lovely Prague, and why I believe it’s an important subject and why I believe that Computer education is necessary tool amongst other future teachers.
My name is Jibriil Hassan Ali; I am 26 years old and I come from Copenhagen, Denmark. I study in Roskilde, which is about 20min outside the capitol, Copenhagen. I came to Prague in mid February 2014 in relation to my study abroad program, which was to take place In the Czech Republic. I had 5 subjects of which 4 were similar to subjects offered in Denmark, but computer education was one of the few subjects, which I have never heard about before, and a subject which isn’t offered in my teacher training institution. After reading about the subject it stood as new and exciting, it didn’t take me long to choose the subject, which I today can look back and validate as a very good choose.
My first expectation on the subject was first of all, that there would be a good amount of students from both Czech and abroad, but to my surprise I was the only student that choose the subject but later a nice young Hungarian girl joined the class. I was a bit a disappointed that we were so few students in class but it turned out to be the best solution. Because of the few students we were, this gave us an opportunity to a have closer teacher-student conversations and I fell that learned a lot from not being in a big class with many students because it gave the chance to ask as many questions I wanted and teacher always made sure that we followed and understood his lessons.
The meaning of computer education can be understood in many ways, during my lessons I learned about many aspects of computer education amongst othersTPCKandcomputional thinking iste. orgthese aspects of computer education can be used to help develop future teachers into the digital world of education.
I will shortly explain the TPCK framework to enlighten the important’s of the course and why I believe every teacher practice student should participate in the course.
Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK) is a framework to understand and describe the kinds of knowledge needed by a teacher for effective pedagogical practice in a technology enhanced learning environment. To understand the concepts of the framework, one needs to possess knowledge of the framework TPCK;
T: Technological knowledge is the ability to used software, computer, Wi-Fi or any other form of digital tools.
P: Pedagogical knowledge is fundamental knowledge on how to teach in a classroom.
CK: Content knowledge is the specific content that is being taught for your key learning area
In order for TPCK to be successful, the teacher must possess all three skills. If the teacher possesses all three skills, educating students through technology can be very efficient and successful; therefore I believe that every teacher practice institutions should have mandatory computer education lessons.
I will shortly explain the computional thinking iste. Org,
The lesson of computional thinking, is intended to teach you how to take big a difficult problem and break it down to several simpler problems. The goal of this lesson is to write several instructions that someone can solve in given lesson plan. Students will break into groups to write instructions and then they will switch them with another group. Students will write instructions using four steps of computational thinking;
Decomposition: First, students will decompose a task meaning making a game plan.
Pattern location: Then look for patterns instructed by lesson plan or by the assignment instructions made by the teacher
Abstraction: When they come across different patterns they will then abstract out or remove those details
Algorithms: Students will write a set of instructions using algorithms to point out certain patterns that doesn’t fit into the assignment of the game plan.
The use of computational thinking provides the students the ability to logically organize and analyze certain data thereby assert a critical- constructive mindset, this ability will help them solve difficult tasks in the future with calm and confidence.
Through the course computer education I have taken back knowledge about how to teach students through technology, the ethics behind education technology, I feel that I am more adaptable and that I now know more about computer education.
I hope that my recommendation has been helpful and that you choose this course.
Best regards
Jibriil H. Ali
