CHRISTMAS TIME IN TALLINN (Part 3; Finland trip: Rovaniemi)

Finally we arrived to Rovaniemi. The bus left us in the hotel´s main door, once inside we were divided in rooms for two or three people. I slept with my pillow´s brothers, we had really fun those nights.

Although it was cold we decided to go for a walk around the city. It was small and cute at the same time. It was curious that the sun never came out completely, and the only moment we could appreciate some clarity in the sky it lasted less than two hours.

The main street of the city was iluminated by the lights of the christmas decoration. There was also a huge mall and some nice stores. In the middle of the street there was a square called “Lordi Square” ,“Sampo” before. The name was changed in 2006 when the group of heavy metal music won the Eurovision contest.

The components of the group also have a restaurant close to the main street, it is called “Rocktaurant” and they serve fast food, not too expensive for being in Finland. I am not fan of heavy metal music, but visiting the restaurant is a nice experience for travelers, even if they do not like this kind of music.

The decoration of the place was odd, the esthetic in accordance with the music of the place: heavy music. You could also find some autographs from some well-known rockers hanging on the walls, and the food was good enough to eat. They served pizzas, kebabs… The speciality is pizza with reindeer´s meat.

Close to the city there is a bridge which crosses a river. After going through it we reached a mountain, up there we could see the whole city. The sight was amazing and relaxing, but the ascent to the top of the hill was tough and fun at the same time.

Another curiosity of Rovaniemi is that you can eat french fries or a hamburger in the northest McDonals of the world. Simply to experiment the feeling of been eating the chips in the northest´s restaurant of that brand in the world was interesting.

We also had time to go out, we made a party in the hotel and after it we crossed the street to go to a mini-disco, which name I do not remember. We had really fun.

We spent two days in the city, even that one day we made a special trip… But I will let you know next time.
