Hi there!

I am writing this post to the purpose of helping other people prevent few issues I faced when I came to Belgium, Hasselt.

First of all regarding traveling it depends which way you'll be arriving to Belgium. I took a flight from my home country to Charleroi(city 50KM far of Brussels). Of course when you book your flight you can choose Brussels National Airport, which is by the way 15 minutes from Brussels. Yet, if by any chance your  arrival will be at Charleroi Airport you have to:

1.Take the bus from there to Brussels, the trip takes around 1 hour

2. The bus dropps you off in front of the train station in Brussels

3. You have to take the train to Hasselt. It leaves hourly, the last one being in the evening around 21:00, the trip lasts 1 hour.

The overall trip will cost you about 20 euro.

4.Once you arrive in Hasselt, now it depends where you rented a your room it may be Diepenbeek or Hasselt (distance between them is 6km). Usually the landlord will pick you up from the train station. Or ifn not, you can take a cab( 10-20 eur) depends on the distance. I think the bus is more difficult for you, by the way from there bus 45 can take you to University(UHasselt).

If your flight destination is on Brussels National Airport then:

You  will have to take the elevator/stairs to the -1 floor (underground), there it's a train station, ask for a ticket towards Hasselt. You will have to switch trains either in Brussels or probably Leuven. You can do a prior check for timing and platforms here http://www.belgianrail.be/en/Default.aspx

Any questions? do not hesitate to contact me, I will do my utmost to help you.

Greetings from Belgium,

Alin

hello Alin, I'm Maria and I am from Greece. I will study next February in Hasselt at Katholieke Hogeschool Limburg in the primary education department. This is located in Campus Hemelrijk (Hemelrijk 25), that is to say 7km away from Diepenbeek. Do you suggest that I should find an appartment near my campus or in Diepenbeek? I don't know which option will be more convenient for me because I haven't been there before so as to know the distances. Thank you very much :)

Hi Maria. I will definitely advise you to take a room in Hasselt, since that KHLim department in exactly in the centrum of Hasselt, and has nothing to do with Diepenbeek. You can find accomodation on this website: https://uhintra3.uhasselt.be/svkamers/ZoekRes.aspx If you need any further help don't hesitate to contact me. Greetings, Alin
