IAESTE Experience in Athens, Greece by Senay
Why did you choose to go to Athens, Greece?
Because it was my only internship option.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
1120 €
What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?
Good. City is not so big or crowded (at least smaller than my home city) and everything is on reach. A student can both learn a lot from historical aspect and have some fun in this city.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Athens to other students?
Yeah. Just be careful with traffic and prices may seem high for non-West Europeans.
What is the food like?
Indigenous food is good, and they are in every corner. But pork is used a lot which i don't like; so before recieving food one should ask what is the meat they use to make it.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Athens?
Yeah i bought premium membership from erasmusu. But now i live in a nice flat i could not find otherwise.
How much does it cost to live in Athens?
For a week w/o rents it costs about 100 €s. Keep in mind that i do not drink alcohol though.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Depends on one's own language. It is not easy for me. I do not know about language courses.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Athens from your city?
Probably bus but takes too long.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Athens?
Monastraki, Keramikios, Syntagma, Thissio, Acropoli
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Athens?
Buffets with indigenous food.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
A lot. History can be traced in many places of Athens, mainly central districts. Acropoli is a must.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Athens in the future?
Beware of crazy economy.
