Gods couldn't choose another place to be born

It was in Athens, some years ago. After a hitchhiking adventure with a guy with hair down to his feet, a punk freak with questionable ideas about personal hygiene, I met him and meeting him I met Greece. His name and the way it happened means little to me today. I had no idea at that time that Erasmus changes not only your life but also your perspective and your way of understanding the whole world. Yes, I loved him, the beautiful Greek man, but more importantly, I loved that life, those friends, that energy in the air. I loved that Country. I returned to Italy and had to leave him back, but that energy, those friends, and those strange and inspiring ideas remained. Above all, Athens stayed in mind, in my words. Nowadays people use to believe Greece is "behind" the other European Countries, that the world forgot Athens, but truth to be told Athens is just another world. If you walk those streets with an open mind, you will be enchanted by the perfumes and the colours of the East, the modernity of Europe, the tradition of one of the most ancient culture, the beauty of the place where democracy was born, the landscapes of Mediterranean. And if you let all this magic charm you, you will suddenly understand Gods couldn't choose another place to be born.

When the nostalgia overpowers me, I bring to my mind a phrase from a Rumi's poem I was reading at Piraeus port at that time: “[...] you don't need to find me again in a human form, for by now I am inside your eyes, I'm inside your glances.”
