What is it like to live in Athens? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Athens is a huge city that is trying to modernize. The city never sleeps and you can always find a party happening somewhere. I would recommend Athens to anyone who wants to visit.

What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?

There are hundreds of student places where you can meet locals. Clubs and bars are abundant and the music scene is rapidly growing.

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

It would cost about 700 euros to live comfortably in Athens. Although you could get by with less.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Athens? Is there any advice you can give?

Because of Airbnb and similar platforms the housing market in Athens has changed in recent years. In poorer, ill-reputed suburbs though, cheap housing is still available.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is great! You can find a variety of cuisines but greek places are a must. My favourite is definitely souvlaki (like a greek sandwich) and kalamarakia (squid).

What places would you recommend visiting in Athens?

The Acropolis museum and the Nat. Archaeological Museum are amazing. Parko Eleftherias is perfect for picnicking. Gazi and Psyrri are the nightlife hubs. Ermou Street for shopping. Exarcheia if you're more alternative.

Is it good to eat out in Athens? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yeah it is worth eating out because the atmosphere is usually lively. My favourite spots are Kandavlos souvlaki, Mirch (indian), Mikrouli (noodles), I cake you (cakes), Lukumades (local Lukumades dessert).

Is the nightlife good in Athens? Where is good to go?

The nightlife in Athens is perfect. Most clubs stay open until 7 in the morning and there are tons of bars with an amazing aesthetic. Good bars: Clumsies, Noel, Magic Bus, Barrett, Tranzistor. Clubs: Akanθus, Tokyo, Lohan, Soho, and Noiz and BeQueer for lgbt+ visitors.

What advice would you give future students heading to Athens?

Athens is a city that is worth discovering. So be sure to explore as much as you can. The architecture and the way of life can be chaotic but Athens is an emerging metropolis with a lot of interesting things to see.
