Athens in a few words

Athens is an urban city rich in history and tradition. In most of the central places, you can see the ancient Acropolis which adds an aura of magic and mystery. There are plenty of things to experience; from culture and art museums, landscapes, to beautiful beaches, and of course the famous Greek nightlife. I would recommend it to students who have a variety of interests.

What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?

Students in Athens usually spend their time in the city centre (the most crowded place). They have the option of visiting some suburban areas where they can go to the beach during the warmer months. The main attraction for students is the party-till-the-morning lifestyle which is very dominant in Greek universities.

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

Athens is relatively cheap as a city with approximately €300/month needed for accommodation and €200-500 for everything else depending on your personal interests. A ticket for the subway costs €1.40 and it is the most efficient way to transport.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Athens? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult to find accommodation. My advice is to live near the university as to avoid things like morning traffic and an overcrowded subway.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is generally good but I would advise to check the online reviews before booking somewhere because there are unlimited options and surely some will not be as good. A good tip is to ask your Greek friends. An amazing experience is to visit a traditional tavern, eat seafood and drink Ouzo. A very famous dish among students is souvlaki which you can find almost everywhere in very good prices.

Is the nightlife good in Athens? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is an important highlight. A main student place is Gazi where there are many nightclubs one next to the other and they usually have not entrance fee so you can see them all before deciding where to go. Some other good options include: Dybbuk (for techno music), Lohan (R&B), Toyroom (R&B).
