What is it like to live in Athens? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Athens is a city which can offer you many choices. There is a lot of nightlife and a lot of events being organised in bars.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Athens? Is there any advice you can give?

There are sites for finding accomodation like xe.gr.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is really good and a lot of restaurants with greek cuisine have opened during the past 5 years. Also, there are a lot of international restaurants of really good quality. There are fast food choices, with souvlaki being on top of the list.

What places would you recommend visiting in Athens?

Historic centre of Athens, meaning Plaka and Dionysiou Aeropagitoy. That is a place where both locals and tourists enjoy. It is a typical walk of Athens.

Also, Chalandri is a suburb with its own restaurants and places to hang out. You should visit Floisvos and Glyfada, actually that areas are situated in the sea side of Athens. There are a lot of beautiful places that can be approached mainly by car and by bus, but by bus you will spend a lot of time during travelling...

Is it good to eat out in Athens? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, the food is really good! Thanasis in Monastiraki is famous for his kebab.

If you want something more elegant, you should visit Mamaroux in Monastiraki for brunch. There are a lot of good restaurants that is for sure!

Is the nightlife good in Athens? Where is good to go?

Yes it is, Kolokotroni street close to Syntagma square is a good spot, and also Kerameikos is a famous spot. If you want something more alternative, go to Exarcheia.

What advice would you give future students heading to Athens?

You should find a place next to a metro station, since bus transportation is not so punctual.
