What is it like to live in Athens? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Athens is an old-school city,full of culture and unique places..

What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?

Relaaaxing...When we got a sunny day here,we skip our classes and go out for a coffee(alwats cold coffee)
ps:we got 300 sunny days,out of 365 :D

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

Could be better..food is cheap,but alcohol,rent etc..not so much..
For sure there are some "hidden" cheap places to go out,or cheap places to live..but you need a greek friend to find out about them..

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Athens? Is there any advice you can give?

No,Athens is HUGE,and full of appartments..fb groups for erasmus students are really helpful,else,you can ask a greek,to help you out :)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Cheap and tasteful,from breakfast(greek bakeries are different than others in Europe), to dinner,you got plenty of options,mostly around souvlaki,and pita gyros..Really cheap,from 1-2e..
You can also find hot dogs from 60cents,and even if you go to a tavern for lunch,you can have a nice plate with 6e..Always if you know where to go ;)

What places would you recommend visiting in Athens?

Plaka for a walk,or botellon ;)

Exarcheia for alternative souls

Monastiraki-thiseio,for a walk,or take a frappe with a nice view of acropolis..traditional places there

Gazi to go out..Its expensive..mostly greeks who wants to spend money go there,but still you can have a beer from the qiosque and sit at the park in the middle..

Piraeus,if you want to hang out next to the sea..there are many places there to have a coffee,like piraiki,or mikrolimano(a bit expensive)

There are many many more,for all the tastes!Just look around you,deny to give your money to expensive glamour clubs,and enjoy the alternative city of Athens..

Is it good to eat out in Athens? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Cheaper than many capitals..around 5-6e you can find a nice plate..But depends the place,of course..

Is the nightlife good in Athens? Where is good to go?

You can find everything..traditional "taverns" where you drink local drinks and get wasted-while you are listening-even dancing to traditional greek music,
Glamourus clubs and bars,to spend your money easily :P ,
Alternative bars with much better prices and more alternative people,
Street botellon,as in Greece we don't follow the rules that much (it means..no penalty if you drink on the street)

What advice would you give future students heading to Athens?

Try to stay near the center,don't care about the distance from your university..During the day we have good metro system,but during the night,its nice to avoid taxis ;)
So prefer to live in the center!So you can walk to many people around there..

Also,try to "live" the greek culture..try traditional things,try to live like Greeks,relax and enjoy all the small things you can get in our poor country :)
