Why did you choose to go to Athens, Greece?

I study social and humanitarian work so because of a target group of refugees.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

3 months. All together it should be around 1500 €

What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?

OASA (public transport) does not accept ISIC, that's very stupid I think. You can also meet a lot of new people, which is great. If you like history, you'll probably love this city. On the other hand, you can also see a lot of sad things happening in the streets if you keep your eyes open and you didn't come here just for sun and party. Many poor people and homeless. It's visible in the streets that Greece is struggling in this period.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Athens to other students?

I don't study at University. I have an internship in the organization, so I am not eligible to tell you. If you study social work, you can learn a lot here.

What is the food like?

Food is perfect, but if you're a poor student, you'll be probably shopping in discounts and cheapest supermarkets.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Athens?

I've found it on FB.

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

They offer nice flats around 250€/month. But I have cheaper. In my opinion, it's a "huge business" to offer accommodation to Erasmus students and it's more expensive than for Greeks. Yes, because you're a tourist. Welcome to Greece.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Once you learn greek alphabet, it's not that bad. But first 2 weeks are very interesting.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Athens from your city?

Prague Athens. Of course by plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Athens?

Exarcheia - but it's an "anarchist territory" so if you see a lot of cops, get out of here. Lycabetus mountain the best view on the city.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Athens?

Plenty of them. You will find one.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Many museums, Acropolis, Olympic stadium etc.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Athens in the future?

The transport is crazy sometimes, so keep your eyes open and look around. Don't trust the traffic lights. People are very nice, excepting the buses - there are usually very rude and inconsiderate. Anyway, I think you will enjoy the weather, culture and people as well. Start with "jasas"...
