Erasmus Experience in Antwerp, Belgium by Mr Phiwokuhle Zituta

Why did you choose to go to Antwerp, Belgium?

I chose to come to the University of Antwerp because of its reputation in my study field. It has a highly credible Applied Economic science and Business Administration faculty with widespread accreditation from institutions such as EFMD and the AACSB which are not ubiquitous and represent the gold standard in international management education.

What is the student lifestyle like in Antwerp?

Antwerp is a beautiful city. It is highly developed in terms of infrastructure, the transportation system is impressive and it is relatively easy to find your way around the city. There is also lot to do and see in the city. In terms of student lifestyle the environment is not bad in terms of the cost of living. One thing I can advise future students coming into the city from outside Europe though is to avoid falling into the trap of converting prices into home currency every chance they get. albeit tempting. leave PPP at home if you want to be happy.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Antwerp to other students?

Definitely. I am really enjoying my time in the city. The University of Antwerp is truly a great university. I believe that I made the right choice coming here. It has only been a few months but my thinking is on another level already.

What is the food like?

The food here is not bad. Belgian food is relatively varied with extensive regional variations which also reflect the cuisines of neighboring countries such as France, Germany and the Netherlands. Antwerp is best known around the world for its chocolate, waffles, fries and beer. My favorite so far is the Stoverij, which is a typical Belgian beef stew.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Antwerp?

Not really. I live in a beautiful apartment which is 10 minutes away from my campus and 5 minutes away from the city centre.
