Why did you choose to go to Antwerp, Belgium?

First, because of the country. I`ve been in Belgium a couple times before and I like it so much! I wondered if the other side (I mean the flemish part) have the same spirit. Second, because of the language. It is easier to learn/work in english in the Flemish part then the French.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I`ve left my home University for 3 months. I was in Antwerp for practice not for education. But I made to visit some lectures as well. The Erasmus grant wasn`t so "grande" - around 450 euro per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Antwerp?

I had not so many connections with students but young people there are open-minded. There are also many different cultures that look for some friends. Clubs are full of students ... maybe more on Fridays and on Saturdays.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Antwerp to other students?

Absolutely yea. Antwerp is a city with amazing architecture, many monuments, parks and of course the river - Scheldt (that separate the city into two parts...the side that looks from Antwerp can show you awesome view). About the University - it is really unique, there is a big library (with sources in english).

What is the food like?

Well, for me, it was expensive :) But there are many shops (so called turkish/arabian shops) where you can get some food cheaper.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Antwerp?

That was the most difficult thing - to find some flat for rent. Except the prices are high, the minimum of required period for rent is 6 months.

How much does it cost to live in Antwerp?

I lived near the center in studio that costs 665 euro (the price includes electricity, water and internet fees).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

In my opinion, the language is too difficult (but I`m bulgarian). About the courses - I have no information because I used english.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Antwerp from your city?

With Wizzair.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Antwerp?

Noxx : http://noxxantwerp.com/home :)

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Antwerp?

Pizza hut :) It is not a restaurant but I couldn`t afford it. I hope you can...then share with me :)

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The Cathedral for sure. You also must see the tunnel under the river. It`s so exited. Amm.. you should just walk in this city. Every corner can be interesting.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Antwerp in the future?

Do not scare! Just try to adapt yourself as fast as you can. Otherwise, you will miss the adventure. Look out during the evenings...be with someone else. Be kind with jews (they are a lot in Antwerp).
