What is it like to live in Aberdeen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I really like Aberdeen, it's a smaller city but it's full of stuff to do. It's called the Granite City because it's so grey but it can be quite pretty. It's cold because it's so northern and next to the sea so don't expect a lot of sunshine.

What is the student lifestyle like in Aberdeen?

There are two universities and a college in Aberdeen so there are a lot of students. There's student nights most nights of the week, student discount in most shops and the bus routes revolve around the universities. There's not a student union though but most students go to same few bars to drink.

How much does it cost to live in Aberdeen?

Aberdeen is normally quite expensive to live because of the oil. However as a lot of people are students there are cheaper areas. If you are careful with your money you'll be fine!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Aberdeen? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not that difficult as there are quite a few different student accommodations to choose from. I'd recommend if you're going to choose student accommodation that you go directly with your university. There are quite a few companies that are for students of either university and they are a lot more expensive. Also the bus links between both universities and the city centre are really regular so don't worry if you live a little away from where you want to. I'd also add that if you want to get into student accommodation you should book as early as you can.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can get pretty much anything, there are loads of supermarkets and takeaways as well.

What places would you recommend visiting in Aberdeen?

There are quite a few places to visit. There's the beach, and right next to it is Codona's amusement park. There's Duthie Park which has a playpark bit but is a nice place to have picnics. Marischall College is a really pretty building to visit, and it's right in the city centre.

Is it good to eat out in Aberdeen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are a lot of chain restaurants in the main shopping centres which are really good but you can also find individual places if you look hard enough. And one Saturday a month they have a market on Belmont Street where you can buy nice stuff.

Is the nightlife good in Aberdeen? Where is good to go?

Nightlife's good but could be better. There's a range of different nightclubs for different tastes but I usually end up to going to the same 3. Because it's quite a small city, you will normally see a lot of people you know every time you go out. There are a lots of bars though, that range from really cheap to really expensive, so you can usually go out no matter what your budget is.

What advice would you give future students heading to Aberdeen?

Bring a waterproof jacket! And try to get involved in as much as you can. Both the universities are always doing stuff and there are lots of different festivals throughout the year.
