Erasmus Experience in Aberdeen, United Kingdom by Fátima

Why did you choose to go to Aberdeen, United Kingdom?

I did some research studies at The University of Aberdeen, at the Faculty of Pharmacy under the supervision of Dr. Heather Wallace.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I was there only for three months during the summer, not Erasmus at all.

What is the student lifestyle like in Aberdeen?

It is really good. They have lots of activities for students and a long week at the beginning of the semester that I missed. If you go to that week, try to go to all the activities and be involved in any association that they offer, you will enjoy a lot, you can even surf there!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Aberdeen to other students?

The University of Aberdeen of course, it is really good. The city of Aberdeen not that much, it's really expensive and there is not much to do in it. But if you choose the University or you don´t have any other option, the University will make you feel like home and you will really enjoy it.

What is the food like?

From a Spanish person like me, not really good, but it´s better than in the rest of England. Salmon is good and you could also taste some Scottish dishes like the Highlands cows and of course their beers! Try the Hardcore IPA in Brew Dog Bar!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Aberdeen?

Yes, I tried in Gumtree but it was not that easy. If you can, try with the apartments that the University offers you, they are quite more expensive, but cleaner and worthier.

How much does it cost to live in Aberdeen?

For a Spaniard, it is quite expensive, as London.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes, don't worry about the language. People is really nice and they will help you all the time.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Aberdeen from your city?

Ryanair and Megabus forever!

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Aberdeen?

Brew Dog and the Blue Lamp.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Aberdeen?

There is a Brazilian that is really good that I can not remember the name.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Lots of castles. Go to Skye Island and all the Highlands. Really worthy. Edinburgh during the Fringe and Glasgow for a good concert.
