Why did you choose to go to Aarhus, Denmark?

Because I heard only good things about this place, and there is very good, recognizable University.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I've got about 1500 Euro for 6 months from Erasmus Program. It's impossible to pay bills and stay alive with such money in Denmark. But! It is possible to find a job there. The amount of money you get is dependent on many factors, some people get more from Erasmus program.

What is the student lifestyle like in Aarhus?

There is more fun than work. You can meet people from around the world and party with them.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Aarhus to other students?

Yes! I always do. City is clean and pretty. There are attractions for everybody. People are very open and helpful. University is very high in ranks. The courses are proffesional and interesting (at least those I took). The atmosphere in class is very motivating to creativity and discussion. I've learnt a lot.

What is the food like?

Quality of food is good. You can buy a expensive one or cheap (in Lidl, Kiwi). But both are ok and you can find all you need (except butter without salt - good luck with that!; D).

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Aarhus?

I had no problem with that, because Interntional Exchange Office at Aarhus University made it for me for free.

How much does it cost to live in Aarhus?

Depends on where are you from. If you are from Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, etc. it's comparable. For others is a bit expensive (Spain, Italy, Germany) or very expensive (Poland, Czech Republic). You need about 1500 krone/month for accomodation and additional 1000 (or more) for food and other things.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language is easy for people from "germanic" countries (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) and from "nordic" countries (Norway, Sweden, etc. ). For others its quite difficult in the beginning (the pronunciation! ) but possible to learn. There is free course for students. And it is at good level.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Aarhus from your city?

From Poland, there are busses which are cheap but the travel is very long. Other good way is: flight to Billund and then bus; or flight to Kopenhagen and then bus. But for the first time the bus is the best because you can take more baggage. Additionally the driver drops you under chosen address (very useful when you are new).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Aarhus?

The best parties are always in Skjoldhøj Kollegiet! There are also good parties/meetings/concerts in Studenterhus (cheap beer! ). Downtown you can find many good pubs. Almost all of them are good (prepare to spend a lot of money).

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Aarhus?

Are students going to restaurants? Seriously? You can buy sandwich or pizza here and there.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

It's good to go to Aaros (museum with rainbow) and Randers Regnskov (near Aarhus).

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Aarhus in the future?

Brace yourself! Winter is comming soon and it's terrible! Also it's very very windy, it's raining a lot. Danes drink a lot and do funny things afterthat. You NEED a bike. You can buy it from leaving studends or just ask around. It is good to make a trip to Skagen. Go swimming, really.
