Tim's Erasmus Experience in Aarhus, Denmark
Why did you choose to go to Aarhus, Denmark?
I wanted to explore countries and cultures that I had never encountered before.
How long is the grant for? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The grant lasts from February until June and I receive 370€ per month, which helps me a lot given that Denmark is an expensive country to live in.
What is the student lifestyle like in Aarhus?
There's a cosy living environment.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Aarhus to other students?
I don't know if it's applicable to everybody, but I would recommend it because I have had a great time here.
What is the food like?
The Danish food is ordinary, but very tasty!
Was it difficult for you to find your accommodation in Aarhus?
My university arranged to find student accommodation for me, so I was lucky. I have heard that it's not always easy to find a place to live.
How much does it cost to live in Aarhus?
It's a more expensive place to live in, but if you take note of this in advance, you can adequately prepare yourself for this, and I've heard some places are worse anyway.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
The Danish language is not easy to learn, but it's very much appreciated if you're trying to learn even just a little bit of it! Almost everyone is able to speak English quite fluently, so there's an almost certain possibility that you will be able to have a conversation with others.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Aarhus?
Noir Club & The Australian Bar are nice places to go to, but the nightlife is really limited to the city centre.
And eating out? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Aarhus?
A good restaurant serving local food is Pinden, for example.
Which cultural hotspots are worth visiting?
The AROS Museum is definitely recommendable and Den Gamle By is also a 'must see'. Furthermore, I've heard several great stories about the Moesgård Museum, so I'm planning to go there.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Aarhus in the future?
Find a good place to live and maybe think about bringing a bike because it will come in really handy. Danish people are really nice, so participate in sport clubs (like Run for Friendship), or any other club for that matter, to get to know them better!
